Dreams

We all have dreams.

Something we strive for.

I dreamed of writing a book and becoming as popular as Stephen King. But I let fear and naysayers keep me from following that dream.

Then J.K. Rowling wrote Harry Potter.

I figured if she could do it, why not me?

More people need to follow their dreams, not let Reality interfere. Life is already hard enough without losing our dreams to harsh reality.

I finally realized at least part of my dream–publishing a book–in 2015. It didn’t take off, but did gained a few followers. I have two more out plus two novella. I had stopped writing in that realm and published two different books under a slightly different name because of naysayers. But I realized I shouldn’t let others effect my dream.

I’m going to be putting out another book in that realm. It’s a step back toward claiming my dream. There’s a song with a line that I tell myself. ‘If you have a dream chase it because a dream won’t chase you back’.

I still dream of writing that one book that will fling me into stardom, but I realize that may never happen. But I may still earn a living from my books by sheer volume of books.  I’ve been told that sometimes an author doesn’t make it until they have out a lot of books, put their name out there.

One way or another I’m determined to get my name out there and recognized. I will be famous even if it takes me until I’m hundred. Dreams should never be given up on.

Dream in the mind’s eye

Story Idea

My muse popped in with another story idea while I was writing in Book4. This one is set in a rural area in Missouri where I live. Elemental themed, of course. Seems my Muse is on that kick right now. Got a raven in this one as the link between her and the gift. So I’ll be working on three stories.

Moving along slowly but surely on Book 4, a little slower on Book 3 of Ghostwolf. Book 4 of Elemental Voice is the main so I’m trying to concentrate on it when I sit down and write. Both books are to be out next year.

Next

Now that the conference is over, I’m getting back to writing. Book 4 of Elemental Voice and Book 3 of Ghostwolf are next in the queue. I already have the covers done or so I think. They may change.

Also a new novella is coming out. It is a series prequel called The Elemental Detective: Natural Law. I wrote it in first person. First time I’ve written that way except in a flash fiction. My muse just dropped it off and left, not letting me work on anything else but not giving me any help either until I finished it. So it’s done and I would like some reviews on it. There might be another novella in that world, but my muse is being cagey about that.

I’m also getting ready for Hootin An Hollarin in September. The space is already paid for. I just have to reorder my books to ensure I have enough. The craft fair draws people from different states as well as locals. It’s also a fundraiser for our high school. If you’re in the Gainesville, Missouri area between September 15 and September 17th you should stop on by and check it out. And maybe support a few school programs. Admission is free and there are things for all ages.

Conference 3

Back from the writer’s conference. Took a couple of sessions, got some emails for my list, and sold a few books. Not bad for a first conference since the pandemic. We had a murder mystery dinner Saturday night and I guessed right. The books I write and read seemed to have given me the right mindset for picking a killer.

conference 2

So it begins.

Woke up early like I knew I would. So excited for the conference. So many thoughts. I’m going to see if I can get some writing done before I leave later for Springfield. No computer with me this weekend, but I’ll have my phone so I can connect. Want to emerse myself in the conference. However I know my muse will probably hit me with something so I’m taking a notepad.

Update: Did two paragraphs of writing. Now it’s time to load the van and settle things. Can’t wait to see everyone.

Conference

A few more days and I’ll be at the Between the Pages Conference in Springfield, MO. I’m going to have some free stuff–bookmarks. But special bookmarks. If you buy a book you’ll get my handmade beaded bookmarks, but if you sign up for my email list you’ll get a surprise bookmark. I’m thinking about having the surprise bookmarks at Hootin An Hollarin as well. Readers of all ages will enjoy them I’m sure as they are fun. I hope to see you at one of my events.

In-Person events planned

Getting ready for the Between the Pages Writer’s Conference. In about 2 weeks I’ll be at the conference center of Double Tree by Hilton in Springfield MO and the book room will be open to the public at 1pm on June 18th. There will be about 25 to 100 writers there. Mostly us Indies. I’ll have limited amount of books there but if you show up with some of my books I’ll sign them.

Also I’m signed up to be at Hootin An Hollarin in Gainesville, MO in September. Hootin An Hollarin is a craft festival with music, dancing, and parades. So if you’re in the area September 15 through September 17 you can catch me there as well.

I’ll also do a local Christmas event in December. That date is not set yet though.

Next WIP

Next book up is Book 4 in my older Elemental Voice Series, an Urban Fantasy series. The FMC reads the earth like a medium hears the dead and finds buried items–mostly dead bodies–for the police in a world where psychics work regularly with law enforcement and vampires live next door.

There is to be five books in this series. I may branch out to more books with these characters, but whether I will put them in the EV series or start a new series I don’t know yet.

These older books are in what I call ‘movie style’ or pulp. Fast paced and action oriented with little description and a lot of dialog. They are also my first books, full of my inexperience but also full of my creativity. I have left them as is. Sentimentality. The rest of the books will be in the same style.

There is also a ‘companion’ series to EV. Right now I have the ideas for just three books, but with my muse being so fickle who knows if more may come.

Both Deadly Sands and Deadly Flames are out. Book 3 of the trilogy is in the queue. These books go into the relationship a bit more and are set around vacations that turn into busman’s holidays. Can her vampire FBI agent boyfriend keep her safe when death joins them on holiday?

If you’re interested in checking out these older Elemental books check out my Elemental page.
